[Ben]:Thoughts on abiotic oil? Discuss This [0 comments so far] View Comments
The Russkies have had a theory the past, oh, five or so decades that says that oil isn't fossil-based, but is generated within magma.

I don't know enough about the science involved, but basically the Fossil Fuel camp believes that photosynthesis is the only thing that can fix carbon in sufficient quantities to produce oil (thus, when we use up all of the oil developed so far, we're SOL because it will be millenia before more develops), and the Abiotic Oil camp believes that oil is an automatically renewed resource formed deep within the earth.

Growing up I was always given the fossil fuel line and hadn't heard the Russian theory until very recently.

Anyone have some insight on this?
