People inside and outside of Israel have made a big stink over this because it appears to be an admission that Israel has nuclear weapons.
Let's be clear on something here ... it is no secret amongst the international community that Israel has nuclear weapons. Israel has had them at least since the 1970's, and it has been public knowledge since October of 1986.
What makes Israel's nuclear program different from everyone else's is that they usually just don't talk about it. Despite being threatened repeatedly by their neighbors, they have never, ever, ever told someone "Back off or we are going to nuke you until you glow and then shoot you in the dark."
Israel walks softly and carries a big stick. I'm not sure why people would be concerned if they were to admit to having the big stick. |
