I own a Compaq Presario laptop that died due to a bad DC jack. Because of the difficulties associated with replacing the plug, I left the laptop alone for a very long time - since about 7/20/2005 - and didn't want to think about how much it would cost to have it repaired.

Recently I decided that it wasn't doing us any good sitting in a drawer and that it was time I bit the bullet, so I pulled it out and tore it apart. After ripping out the DC jack, I shopped around for a place to buy a new one. They aren't that expensive, so I ended up buying two on Ebay for about eight dollars shipped. Then I replaced it and put the laptop back together with only a few dozen extra parts.

So, after almost a year and a half, I once again have a functional laptop.

I could do it again with less trouble if I had to, but I really hope that I never again have to.
